Feb 8-10, 2018
AlFaisal University, Riyadh
As Program Partner, Banafsajeel developed the program for the second architecture conference to take place in Saudi Arabia, thanks to efforts of the Abdulrahman Alsudairy Cultural Center (AACC) in collaboration with AlFaisal University in Riyadh. The conference, Architecture fo the Future: Education, Research and Practice was part of the Dar Al Uloum initiative, a drive by AACC in collaboration with MIT, Dar Al Hekma University, Al Faisal University, Banafsajeel, RIBA Gulf, and Minhaaj. The initiative aims to support the engagement of young architects and develop local and regional architectural principals, techniques and functions.
The conference program included two days of panel discussions by leading practitioners and academics, encouraging constructive dialogue and critical debate on issues of concern in relation to architecture in Saudi Arabia. It also featured the launch of an international competition by AACC to redesign the Dar Al Uloum library, an architecture exhibition by RIBA Gulf, a documentation workshop led by Minhaaj + Bakerloos, and a visit to the historic district of Diriya with Phonart Saudi, providing ample opportunity for networking, inspiration and knowledge dissemination amongst the design community. The conference was free and open to the public.
